Paris and L'Arche Retreat Program
September 2018

In June 2013 Greg Rogers visited Jean Vanier at Trosly, France on behalf of TCDSB in
preparation for Faith Meets Pedagogy and We Day. At that time Mr. Vanier extended an
invitation to educators (and spouses) from TCDSB to attend a private retreat at Trosly in
September 2014. This invitation has been extended by Mr. Vanier for each successive year.

In recent years, Jean delivered the spiritual reflections. During this past year he has suffered from some ill health, which has curtailed many of his activities. The degree of Jean's direct participation will not be known until closer to the retreat dates. If unable to participate fully, then Jean will select a L'Arche prelate to impart his spiritual message and descibe L'Arche's ministry of service. In addition, the group will visit Reims and engage in L'Arche services in small groups.

The program also includes two cultural weekends in Paris for the enjoyment of all participants.
Greg Rogers will coordinate the program in Paris in conjunction with Atourz Travel Services and
will assist in facilitating the retreat at L'Arche..

A maximum of 20 adults will be selected for admission to this program. Participants will be
selected according to the following criteria:

1. Commitment to the learning and spiritual essence of the Retreat.
2. Respectfulness of other people.
3. Pleasant disposition.

Information Meeting

Each applicant will be invited to a private or small group interview with the Directors. This is
intended to share expectations and determine the program’s suitability for each applicant. All
deposits are fully refundable until after this meeting.

In-Class Component
The in-class component will consist of 2 preparatory meetings. Their purpose is to bring the
participants together, establish friendships, and be introduced to the spiritual theme of the retreat.
These meetings will take place at the Catholic Education Centre. The dates will be provided.

Reading List
Recommended readings will be suggested at a later time.

Health and Safety

NOTE: It is most strongly recommended that each participant seek proper medical advice for all potential health concerns at a travel health clinic prior to departure.

Careful attention to sound health and safety practices are important features in any international travel program.

Physical and dental check-ups are highly recommended prior to the departure date. Participants are advised to ensure that their inoculations within Ontario medical protocols are maintained, and to inquire from a travel health clinic if further inoculations are required based on their destination. Each participant will be asked to complete the Consent to Medical Treatment Form in the event that emergency care is required.

A close working relationship has been developed between the authors and Dr. Mark Wise. Dr. Wise is a family physician in North York whose medical practice includes a travel clinic. He is considered a leading authority in tropical and parasitic diseases. (
